Home Sweet Home

Last week marked 5 years in our home. The summer we bought it, felt like a whirlwind.  We bought "THE" house on the block.  It was so ugly and outdated and run down and DIRTY, I remember walking in that first time it was all ours and bursting into tears while thinking "Babe, what have we done! I don't remember it looking THIS bad"  He assured me it would all be OK and proceeded to pull up the nasty, stinking carpet in our upstairs.
We didn't move in right away- but we spent the next 2 months along side my parents and Scott's Mom cleaning, painting, planting, ripping out wallpaper and carpet, laying hardwoods, tiling and planning our wedding.
We worked so hard, but we turned that sad old house into our home.  Our home where he carried me over the threshold as newlyweds, built our family and made so many wonderful memories.
Here are a few of the updates we have done over the years.

The backyard when we moved in was atrocious.  You wouldn't even believe some of the items we found buried underneath the pine straw.  I'm serious...rusty saw blades?? Beer cans! Hypodermic needles!!!!  Scott did some of the work out there when we moved in just so it would be safe for the dogs to walk around, but most of it was done the following winter because it was what I like to call "Snake/Tick City."

The Backyard Now

We gave the gazebo a face lift with new screens and a power washing, added a vegetable garden, removed the old paver walkway and added a brick walkway.  Uncovered the biggest sand pit this side of the Mississippi and turned it into a horse shoe pit. And lastly, removed the 76 inch layer of pine straw covering 99.9% of the ground and planted grass.  Did I mention, it pays to have a landscaper as a husband too ;-)

The Laundry Room Before

The Laundry Room now (this might be my favorite room)

This was a complete gut job.  We laid new tile, painted, installed bead board, molding and new cabinets for storage.  (The bead board is what makes it my favorite)

I will keep posting the projects that we have done over the years as well as the current (ahemm... for the past 3 years) project, the master bath.  Hope  y'all stay cool out there today... it's supposed to be a hot one!
